Criminal gang known as United Nitwits meddles in Nepal civil War

The gang which never shoots straight, THAT criminal enterprise run by turd world multicultis from Turtle Bay: the Koffis, the Doudou Diénes and jihadists from Arabia, now meddles in the nepali INTERNAL POLITICS (just as it tries to meddle in danish internal affairs, but that is for another 20 posts! - coming! ):

Rights activists call upon Maoists not to resort to violence

Human rights activists and professionals have called upon the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) not to resume violence in the run up to the forthcoming municipal polls.

Ian Martin, head of the UN OHCHR in Kathmandu, makes his point as chairman of INSEC, Subodh Raj Pyakurel, (second from left) reflects on. (Photo courtesy: www.inseconline.org)

Taking part in an interaction programme on the ?12-point pact between the Maoists and Seven Party Alliance and Human Rights Issues,? organised by Informal Service Sector Center (INSEC)- a leading human rights group?in Lalitpur on Tuesday, former member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Sushil Pyakurel, said the rights community in the country was concerned about the threat by the Maoists to take ?special action? against candidates who will be contesting for the upcoming municipal polls.

Addressing the interaction, chief of United Nations Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Nepal, Ian Martin, said the UN had welcomed the 12-point pact and had called upon HMG/Nepal to reciprocate. He said he was concerned about how ceasefire could be sustained. He called upon the Maoists not to resort to activities like abduction and killings during the forthcoming elections.

Martin said accountability was the most important part in cases of human rights violations. He said the government was duty bound to protect fundamental rights of the citizens given its commitment to various human rights treaties and international humanitarian laws. He said it was the job of the rights groups to convince the government to ratify the statute related to the International Criminal Court (ICC) so that those responsible for human rights violations and war crimes could be tried.

Aah, if the world was cheese and we just stupid mice, then these machinations would not raise our tail, our whisker. But we are men - and:

* we cannot FORGET

Plight of more than ONE LAKH of BHUTANESE, ethnic nepalis refugess, langushing for more then a decade in mosquito-terai bamboo-hut UN-hell camps - with it's hallmark of UN-run ops: sexual exploitation (aka "sex for food", which I think served as inspiration for biggest scam on earth:

* we cannot FORGET

Oil For Food, leading to death of thousands of Iraqi childern.

* we cannot FORGET

Darfour, where the killing is still going on, while UNHRC chastizes Denmark for some pictures of the paedophile prophet (whose followers do the killing in Darfour!) in a free danish newspaper!

* we cannot FORGET

Rwanda, where present GenSec Koffi run the millitary show (from UN HQ in NYC), and we all know how MANY lives that cost... Maybe as a bonus, as is want among mafiosi, he got "promoted" to his present post! The dead Tutsis didn't complain his nomination.

And now these people want to come and "right" Nepal! Couldn't we just buy 100 donkeys, tar and feather these clowns, bind them backwards on the donkeys and beat the shit out them (no, not the sweet donkeys!) all the way to Raxaul, India: I think the Vienna Protocols are only for protection of bona fide ambassadors, from real countries!

And these dellusional people think they are already WORLD GOVERNEMENT!

Bloody 2006 in waiting for the Valley.

The Butcher from Rukum, Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), has finally realised nobody gives a rat shit as long as he and his band of murdering commies do the foul deeds in remote jungles in Rukum.
So now comes a change in strategy - Kathmandu! The valley should become the battleground for his Utopia:
"Feudalism can't be abolished by attacking small security posts in the villages, we will now aim at Kathmandu," said Netra Bikram Chand (Comrade Biplab) who is in charge of the "Central Base Area" that includes Rukum, Rolpa, Salyan and Pyuthan.

I thought for a long time how lucky we were in the Valley that the Maobadboyz only choose the West-, and later, after the disastrous Second Ceasefire, East-jungles for the murder and mayhem!
Now it dawned on the clueless "comrades" that as long as they only kill and abduct and extort outside the Valley, NOBODY gives a damn! This is how Nepal works: if it doesn't exists in Kathmandu/the Valey, it DOESN'T EXIST!
So we must prepare for terrorist attacks in town - new way of travelling, shopping. On the other hand - the RNA and the Police have a good overview over the city, and if new people show up in the neighborhood, the cops are first to know. Anyway it's a depressive development and the poor nepalis are far from peace! OM Shanti!

No let up in Maoist atrocities

Ah, the liberators of human race are continuing in their "uplifting" activities:

Murder, mayhem, looting:

Nepaleyes Report Kathmandu , December 21

Maoists looted businessmen selling instant noodles in Pandusen area of Kalikot district, on December 16, the army statement added. They also abducted Krishna Prasad Pokharel, a teacher of Mahendra Secondary School in Subarnakhal area of Argakhachi district on December 14. On the same day, Kheure Doli, a resident of Kathmandu area of Doti district was also beaten up. Meanwhile, according to our Butwal correspondent, Maoists recently beat up three civilians including a mentally deranged man at Rampur area of Tilaurakot VDC in Kapilvastu district.
Maoists mercilessly thrashed Asarfi Yadav, his mentally ill brother-in-law Radhye Shyam Yadav and his brother Lalu Yadav over a property row with their neighbor Mustafa Ali.
"Maoists left only after they felt that Asarfi would succumb to injuries," said Lal Mani Acharya, Asarfi's buffalo trade partner.

Seven dwarves / parties announce that they will "actively boycott" the local polls.

Postmodernism has arrived in Nepal - long time ago - but everyday brings new proofs:
"actively boycott"
I old fool thought "boycott" means passively take distance of something. Webster defines it as:
: to engage in a concerted refusal to have dealings with (as a person, store, or organization) usually to express disapproval or to force acceptance of certain conditions
And from the answers.com:

To abstain from or act together in abstaining from using, buying, or dealing with as an expression of protest or disfavor or as a means of coercion.
In no way could it be construed as "beating-up everybody who doesn't listen to our dictat and walks toward the voting station!"

My favorite nepali politician, Kamal Thapa, warned the 7 dwarves:

In Morang, Home Minister Thapa said: ?The government will definitely ensure the people?s right to vote while taking stern action against the parties which boycott the polls.?
?The political parties, in an undemocratic manner, are attempting to thwart the people?s right
to vote,? he said. ?To say that people would not be allowed to vote amounts to attacking people?s voting rights. The parties are behaving in an undemocratic manner,? he added.
Challenging the seven political parties? claim that they will boycott the local polls, he said: ?As Home Minister, I would like to give them the message that the government is ready to take any action allowed by law if they try to scuttle the polls.?
Stating that the government is active in trying to create a conducive environment for the polls, Thapa said: ?The government is moving ahead in accordance with the peace roadmap and the election is part of the peace process.?
?The government will definitely step-in sternly if the political parties act against the people?s wishes,? he said.
And charge the bastards with sediton, and send them to Dolpo to build roads...

Cities go Berserk!

"Our " city Bhaktpaur went up in flames yesterday... Not quite, not literally, but smoke was seen from our house, 3 km away... Marring otherwise quit day here in the coountryside: there was no traffic, just like the Nepal we remember from the 70-ies: people wlking, talking. But there was no gaeity as usual, no laughter or joking, from people wlkin up the hill towards Negarkot most have been to hospital and morgue.
Ther sitation in Bhaktapur is tense, running clashes with the cops, burning of tyres. Lot of cops with broken head from stones (more than 50!), and some 60 taken into custody. Yes, Bhaktapure now how to riot, they have not even in 250 years forgot once they had a Kingdom and a King and didn't take shit from nobody...

Nagrarkot Whodunnit

Whodunnit
  • RNA man Basudev Thapa guns down 12 and injures 19 worshippers
  • Thapa gets killed
  • RNA cleans site of massacre
  • It raises some questions
  • Who killed him?
  • What provoked him to go on the rampage?
  • Did he kill himself?
  • Was he lynched by angry locals or did somebody (fellow soldiers) do it
  • Time alone will tell, if at all [HIMALAYAN TIMES]

It was around 11:30 p. m. Thapa, in civil dress, first fired shots in the air, then started firing at the crowd indiscriminately. People had nowhere to go to protect themselves. Most of the devotees rushed inside the temple thinking that they would be safe in the vicinity of Goddess Kali - known for killing demons, according to Hindu mythology.

But Thapa approached the people who were trying to save themselves from the gunman and continued his shooting spree. According to latest count, a dozen civilians lost their lives in the incident while over one and half dozen were injured with bullet wounds. Some of them broke their legs while trying to jump to safety. [nepalnews.com]

I have my version of Whodunnit:
  • boy meets girl
  • girl has brothers
  • boy gets drunk and rowdy
  • brothers beat boy
  • boy gets gun and shoots brothers
  • boy kills himself.
Untill the last item with the GUN , it's a story as old as mankind... Sad, but our own story, down through the ages.
What is not OK is the way the 7 dwarfs, from O3:
"I want to hold the World Hindu Emperor, who has been running military regime, responsible for it," Koirala said.
down to Janamorcha Nepal president Amik Sherchan, who compared the massacre with that of the Royal Palace massacre of June 1, 2001, were as expected, foaming at the mouth - King this, King that.
If this is how responsible, "statesmanlike" politicians behave, fanning flames, blaming the King, we CANNOT AFFORD TO GIVE THEM POWER!

The Army has published a sober statement, pointing to " a human tragedy ".
My opinion too - GUNS & BOOZE don't mix!

So today we have to again suffer under "chakka-bandh" (no wheels on the road allowed), only the kids are happy so they can play on deserted streets and avoid school...

Nagarkot massacre - UPDATE II

Now the til rises to 13! Kantipur TV showing gruesome scenes of dead bodies lyint in the sun outside Bhaktapur Hospital, with lot of shouting and running outside and nervouse looking cops in body armour. It's on a little ovewr two hours from now, 16:15 UTC.
Back to Earth, Nepal, Kathmandu Valley: And as predicted, the left-wing polticians are grinding the pound of flesh out of this tragedy! Whinig and raving against the RNA, the ONLY guarantor of their liberty to rant & rave! This is how "responsible" politicians behave ion Nepal: they inflame the tensions, agitate against the RNA... This thing ain't over, this might be a spark! Next days will test HM King to the utmost. May Shiva give him strength!

Nagarkot massacre - UPDATE

I was home, at the station, my workstation that is, and I hear nothing! It's only 3 km uphill, azimut 40° but I didn't hear the shooting! It has one explanation (well maybe 2: I played Czech-Celtic "?ECHOMOR" tunes whole evening, the harp, the bagpipes, the LOT!) - yesterday the whole afternoon floew an army helicopter, mostly over Nagarkot and practiced shooting from heavy MG - you know - the 8-10 shots at a time sounded HEAVY, DEADLY SERIOUS... How on earth could I hear lousy M-16?
The HMG and RNA see now they have serious PR (and political) problem on their hands - and they are appointing a High Level Commission, promise compensation:

Govt forms high-level probe team over Nagarkot incident

The government has formed a high level judicial investigation team over the Nagarkot incident in which 11 local residents and an army solider were killed and at least 19 others were injured after the army man ?went on a shooting spree following disputes? last night.

The Home Ministry in a press statement this afternoon said the three-member probe team led by former Supreme Court Justice Top Bahadur Singh has been given five days to present a report on the tragic incident. The panel also comprises former Attorney General Prem Bahadur Bista and Deputy Attorney General Drona Raj Regmi.

Saying that the government has taken the killing very seriously, the Home Ministry stated that the families of the victims would be offered a compensation of Rs.150 hundred each and the injured persons would be provided medical treatment for free.

Rs.150 hundred=1,802 Euro / 2,152 US Dollar , a SERIOUS amount in Hill Nepal, another sign of how worried HMG and RNA are!

Bhaktapur Shut Down

Shit happens: I've heard of simmilar inceidents recently in Russia, in Slovakia - you give drunken soldiers access to guns, shit happens.
What is more sad in this tragedy is the immediate attempt by the politicains to get some capital out of it: instead of mourning, (and they were, the Bhaktapure people, not directly affected: there was only one Newari name among the dead!) they start noisy demonstrations against the RNA, like the Army (or HM Gynendra) sent this poor Thapa bastard to kill some Tamangs!
Latest bulletin (PS: would have posted earlier, but we had POWER CUT! But I must admit my computer run for more than 2 days without pause, not bad for winter Nepal...):

12 Killed in Army Firing in Nagarkot

Bhaktapur remained shut and tense after at least 12 villagers were killed and 19 injured in firing by an army man at villagers gathered for a religious festival at Chundevi templa at Chihandanda of Nagarkot VDC of Bhaktapur district last night.
Bhaktapur bazaar remained closed to protest the Nagarkot killings while students and locals brought protest rallies. The dead bodies have been kept at Bhaktapur hospital while the injured are undergoing treatment at Army Hospital at Chhauni.
The Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) in a statement confirmed the incident but said 11 villagers and one armyman were killed and only 19 were injured.
Sixteen of the injured are recieving treatment at the Army hospital while three have returned home after getting treatment
The army said the armyman who opened firing was also killed in the incident. The army regretted the incident, promised thorough investigation into the incident and punishment to the guilty.
The army, meanwhile, has formed a probe panel to investigate into the incident and promised compensation to the victims' families.
According to reports, a row broke out between the soldiers and the devotees on the issue of alleged ill-treatment of young village women who were taking part in the celebrations, by the soldiers. Security personnel retaliated after their colleagues were reportedly manhandled by the villagers.
An eyewitness said the armymen first used a knife against the villagers after he got involved in a row with them. After the villagers outnumbered him, he fired from an SLR.
The dead civillians have been identified as Ram Lal Nagarkoti, Nanu Nagarkoti, Sapna Tamang, Bhagwan Tamang, Aiti Tamamang, Maya Tamang, Sudhan Shrestha, RP Panta, Kale Tamang, Neeru Tamang, Deepak Tamang and Damai Lama. The dead bodies are lying at the Bhaktapur hospital for post mortem. Relatives have refused to accept the bodies of their kin until the guilty were punished.
According to human rights activists, the armyman who opened fire and later killed himself, was Basu Dev Thapa.

India shakes carrot...

The Enforcer from the Sout Block landed here in the afternppn. I think he's in for a good scolding by HM who ubdoubtedly will ask him how could a meeting with internationally sought (Red Corner Notice !) rake place in New Delhi!
But Sharan already waves the carrot, reminding Nepalis they could get filthy rich:

Nepal could become the richest country of the region: Saran

A day ahead of his visit to Kathmandu, Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran has said Nepal could become the richest country of the region because of its immense hydro-power and tourism potential which remained unutilised.

Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran

?India could help the Himalayan Kingdom in realising this potential by increasing trade relations with the country,? said Saran told official Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency.

Saran is scheduled to arrive Kathmandu on Sunday for discussions with senior Nepali officials. His Majesty King Gyanendra is expected to grant audience to Saran while in Kathmandu, according to reports.

The visit is significant as India is pushing King Gyanendra to restore multi-party democracy ending monarchial rule imposed on the country on February one this year, the news report said.

"This (Nepal) is one country having prospects of becoming the richest in the region because of its hydro potential which is much larger than Bhutan," Saran said in New Delhi addressing a seminar on '13th SAARC Summit -- The Road Ahead'.

Saran?who is also the former Indian envoy to Nepal-- said India and Nepal had trade and transit agreements because of which the bilateral trade had witnessed a significant increase.

Talking about tourism potential in Nepal, he said if highways are constructed from major cities of India to various places in the Himalayan Kingdom, it will help the economy of that country.

"If the potential in tourism sector is tapped, it will completely transform the economic prospects of the country," he said.

The Foreign Secretary said India was helping in this process by developing the infrastructure like road and rail connectivity. "Much more is to be done.?

During his visit to Nepal, Saran is expected to raise the issue of import of arms from by Nepal and also extend invitation to His Majesty to visit India, according to reports.

O3 in Bhaktapur:We had face-to-face with Maoists

Nothing new in his rants, except for admission of meeting the Murderous Commies... and there were not that many people on Nyatapola Square. Bhaktapur was always communist town... so they came and politely listened.
But it was first time he admitted TREASONOUS ACTIVITY:

We had face-to-face with Maoists: Koirala

KATHMANDU, Dec 7 -
Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala has for the first time said in public that he met Maoist leaders face-to-face in the process of reaching the 12-point understanding. Addressing a mass meeting in Bhaktapur on Wednesday, Koirala also lashed out at charges that party leaders went onto foreign soil to reach an agreement with the Maoists. "I will even go to hell if necessary to bring peace in the country."

Koirala accused the king of rejecting peace out of fear that he would lose his excuse for autocratic rule.

"The three-month-long unilateral ceasefire of the Maoists expired without any gesture for peace from the palace," he said.

"Instead, the king was wandering in Africa".

The octogenarian leader also claimed that the 12-point understanding with the rebels was within the mandate of the seven-party alliance.

Koirala said the parties have not changed their demand for House restoration.

"We cannot reach a destination if we follow the wrong path," he said.

Party General Secretary Ram Chandra Poudel said the understanding between the seven-party alliance and the Maoists has instilled hope and confidence in people. "But it has created panic in the palace," he said.

"The palace, which is founded on violence, never wants peace."

Party Vice-Chairman Sushil Koirala, Assistant General Secretary Dr Ram Sharan Mahat and party spokesperson KP Sitaula also spoke on the occasion.

There you have it: O3 charges HM with obstinacy, BUT not one small word of self-criticism, no apology for bringing Nepal where it is today, no admission of REMORSE! But mouth full "people" this "people" that. Disgusting is too gentle word for this demagogy!

Nuts & Bolts of VVIP savaris (processions).

Interesting insight how the 'savaris' are planned, and the cock-up on Baneshwor: while I was gazing into crystal ball in my pre-Friday post, a group of security officals were planning the route. I have foreseen the problem, the provocation of MKN - a venue of charged-up commies at the same-time/same-place spelled TROUBLE, with capitol T! In the past, and in many monarchies/authoritative states today, there would be firing, live ammo, on the stone-throwers, and many would be killed. This is what I think the Deceiver wished - blood on the hands of the Royals! It's only commendable the Police Chiefs, among them "our" Bhaktapur Police Inspector resisted the pressure and now pay for their "disobedience".

Action against officers ruffles feathers in Nepal Police

BY BIKASH SANGRAULA KATHMANDU, Dec 5 - The suspension of three police officials, Monday, on charges of security mismanagement has ruffled feathers at Nepal Police. The suspension follows the recent incident in which the royal motorcade escorting Crown Prince Paras to Tribhuvan International airport last Friday was pelted with stones at Baneshwor. While high-ranking police officials concede that the attack on the royal motorcade resulted from major security failure, they argue that the incident occurred due to poor planning and lapses in communication. "It is customarily the military police that decides the route for VVIP motorcades. They chose the Minbhawan route in the security meeting that took place Thursday, despite being informed about the CPN-UML demonstration that was to take place less than 20 meters from a section of the route," said one senior police official. The security meeting that takes place a day before a VVIP motorcade also outlines two alternative routes for escorting the motorcade as well as emergency exit and emergency refuge. The meeting is attended by the IGP, Valley DIG, District SP, chief of valley traffic police, military police officials, the chief district officer, and officials from National Investigation Department. Apart from having the final say on route selection, the military police also forms the closest security cover in a royal motorcade. An official royal motorcade is led by a traffic police vehicle responsible for road clearance, followed by warning motorcycles, a traffic police van, a leader van, the VVIP vehicle(s), two military police cars and finally a vehicle of the police chief. This was the exact sequence in which crown prince Paras' motorcade moved from the royal palace. The rioters also pelted a few stones at the king's limousine which preceded the motorcade. On the other hand, the rioters hurled several stones at the crown prince's vehicle. Police officials say that there was a major communication failure among security agencies Friday. For moving a royal motorcade, the security escorts inform everyone in the motorcade as well as security personnel posted along the way to switch their communication sets from Channel 2 to Channel 1. "On Friday, the security personnel stationed on the way were not informed to switch channels and therefore did not know that the motorcade was approaching," a key police official told the Post. Even if they had known, they would still not have been able to do much. "A handful of police personnel cannot control hundreds of rioters," he said. On Monday, the ministry for Home Affairs suspended SP Indra Prasad Neupane, chief of Kathmandu District Police Office, who was responsible for security from New Baneshwor to Tinkune. Inspector Surendra Mainali, in-charge of Swayambhu Ward Police Office and Inspector Bhabesh Rimal of Bhaktapur District Police Office, who had been called from their stations to aid security in Minbhawan area, were also handed suspension letters. Valley Deputy Inspector General of Police Krishna Basnet was in-charge of the area. A five-member committee formed by police chief Shyam Bhakta Thapa, Saturday, is slated to come out with its report on Tuesday. This is the first time in 14 years that a member of the royal family has come under attack in public. In 1990, stones were hurled at late Queen Aishwarya at Pashupatinath temple area. In September 1, 2004, the day after Iraqi militants killed 12 Nepalese workers in cold blood, riots spread in Kathmandu. Nearly 100 manpower agencies and personal properties were burnt and vandalized. Not a single police officer faced action for the security lapse.
And of course, the CPN-UML tries to wring each'n'every ounce of the "attack" on their red HQ in Kalanki. Interestingly enough Oli mentions 'punishement of dozens of police officers', and downplays his own/his party's role in setting-up the provocation

Think Twice Before Attacking Parties, Oli Warns 'Hooligans'

THT Online Kathmandu, December 7

CPN-UML leader KP Sharma Oli warned the "small groups of hooligans" not to mess with the political parties that have mass support and strong roots at all levels in the capital. He was addressing an interaction programme organised by the Federation of Nepalese Journalists Kathmandu on Tuesday.
Responding to a query related to the foiled attacks on CPN-UML and NC offices following the Naya Baneshower incident last Friday, he said, "Those who want to attack political parties like ours' should think twice before taking any action." But he assured that the parties were "responsible" and would not reciprocate violence with violence.
Oli said that the police had inhumanely detained school-going children and waiters serving in local restaurants after some hooligans tried to disrupt the mass meet at Naya Baneshwor.
"Two parties pelted stones at each other across the street. One of them hit a passing car. This incident was enough to punish dozens of police officers. This is a unique example of autocracy," he said.
He said that every autocrat was afraid of free media as h/she does not want the public to hear any bad news. "The dissemination of true information goes against the wishes of an autocrat. This can be inferred from what has been happening in Nepal in the past ten months," he said.
These guys will not understand 'censorship' and 'free-pres' until they take toilet-cleaning job in Saudi Arabia! Oli can come with tese kinds of accusations, widely read, as I type, by hundreds of thousands in the Valley, endlessly repeated on KANTIPUR TV and Radio for millions of others, and he has the cheek to complain about FREEDOM OF THE PRESS!
Gimme a break, the debate here, at least AGINST THE MONARCHY is as free as it gets!

India tightens screws.

India, the big, diplomatically sophisticated giant to the South is not limited to a one-track approach to show it's displeasure with the King.
Kantipur Online reports:

India proposes review of transit points

        By Ameet Dhakal

KATHMANDU, Dec 5 - Nepal-India transit talks ended inconclusively on Saturday after India proposed, among other things, a review of the number of existing transit points.

A highly placed government official, on condition of anonymity, said the Indian delegation proposed discussions on rationalization of transit points, movement of goods sensitive in nature, access to other Indian territory through Nepal and railway modalities.

The official said Nepal was particularly concerned about the first two issues -- rationalization of transit points and movement of goods sensitive in nature.

"We are not sure why India wants to review transit points at this point and what exactly it wants to talk about concerning the movement of sensitive goods," the official said, adding, "These are sensitive issues and need to be dealt with at the political level."

Officials are concerned about the motive of the Indian side given the acrimonious relationship between the two neighbors at the political level in the post-February One period. India, according to the official, hasn't directly proposed reduction of the number of transit points "but one can easily guess where they are headed."

The suspicion of the Nepali side has a history to it. In 1989, when Nepal-India relations soured, the southern neighbor pulled the transit leverage that it enjoys over the land-locked Himalayan kingdom. Then, India had shut down all but two of the 15 transit points following the expiry of the Nepal-India Trade and Transit Treaty, causing a near-collapse of Nepal's fragile economy.

The Nepali side is also suspicious about India's proposal to discuss the movement of sensitive goods. India is not only demanding review of the mode of transportation of 'sensitive' goods but also wants to allocate certain transit points for cross-border movement of such goods. Media reports, a few months ago, about a state-sponsored plan to smuggle subsidized fertilizer from the Indian market had alarmed India. Nepal later on averted the plan.

When asked why transit talks ended inconclusively, Jawed Ashraf, commerce secretary at the Indian embassy said, "The meeting was not inconclusive. We had very productive discussions. Issues that require further examination and consultations were identified. We look forward to continuing our engagement on these issues." He also argued that the two governments, in accordance with a provision of the treaty, decided to carry out a review of arrangements under the treaty.

He, however, indirectly conceded that India has proposed review of the existing transit routes. He said, "Rationalization of transit routes and designating routes for movements of sensitive goods were among the issues that came up in the meeting."

The existing Transit Treaty between Nepal and India expires on January 5, 2006. Signed in 1999, the treaty has a provision for automatic renewal every seven years unless terminated by either party with a prior notice of six months. However, the treaty also says that the two countries will review the modalities, routes, conditions of transit and customs arrang-ements before such renewal takes place. This leaves room for different interpretations about the continuous implementation of the treaty unless there is a joint review before its expiry.
One month! One month and even more chaos threatens this poor, suffering land. But the King and the RNA are stubborn and proud.
As they, as representatives of a proud nation, never colonised, should be!

Nepali Flags vs. Blood Stained rags

This character MKN, lapdog-cum trial balloon of O3 is getting more-n'-more unhinged day-by-day! KANTIPUR TV (and publ. house, controlled by murky Indian Corp.) is quickly becoming Nepal TV, that is Madhan Kumar Nepal and his Merry Commies personal mouthpiece-TV! Nothing against it, in democracies often happens that one TV/media conglo is leaning that, some the other way... But the way past month this TV swinged towards the 7 dwarfs is't unbelievable! If I had not my patented Elephantine Memory TM and the pain in my broken leg I would have thought I was dreaming.. or nightmaring:
Back to Friday the 2nd - the day I fear will be later recognized as a MAJOR date in Nepal history - MKN thought he will rule the streets - if not Kathmandu then at least Baneswar, an area HM MUST pass on his way to Palace. Clear provocation! So it's only understandable that monarchists - well if you watched only Kantipur you would not know there are any left in Nepal! - took issue with the commies when the latter pelted cavalcade of Crown Prince Paras, going to greet his father at the airport, with stones (see yesterday's post). So after seeing HM safely reach the Palace, they , well some thousands of them, marched over to Kalanki, at least 4 miles from Baneswor, on the other side of the town, near the old, worn out cable-car ropeway. There they threatened to burn the commie HQ down, with all the bigwigs inside celebrating the FINGER they gave the King. in it!
So MKN gets on his mobile, calls some unlisted number... in police HQ, Naxal, and asks for HEEELP! The Fine Boyz un Blue arrive just in time to save his hide...
In his Saturday speeches (mainly to, yeah you guessed it, KANTIPUR TV) MKN forthed and foamed about how the UNHCR and UK-embassy and probably Martians saved him from "Mandalees". This is a pejorative expression back from 1990, and that time ment paid,sworn,die-hard supporters of Panchayat... Only yesterday, Sunday, did I hear him utter half-baked thanks to the security forces!
To call this sponataneous outburst of monarchists' anger for "Mandalees' organized assasination attempt" is proof MKN is on verge of nervous-breakdown. Unlike many of participants in his Ratna Park Happenings (there are confirmed statements from building workers and unemployed of NPR100-150 per demo), the patriots on the Ring Road threatening to torch his HQ did not need any renumeration or organization!
And if it was organized by the Palace, how come the Police came, and quickly?
As for me, if I see two groups of demonstrators, one with the beatiful, historical, patriotic flags and the other waving rags, stained by blood of 100 mill. victims (Nepali: 10 crore mareko mancheharu!), which group would I support?
Ask yourselves - which group would you support? - as the time is nearing you all will have to make that choice!

Black Jaguar

... was the only obviously black thing last Friday.
Alas my gazing into the crystal ball was myopic, to say the least...
But my respect for Kathmandu Police, listed in last post(s), have only grown!
They managed to provide:
1, for HM the King dignified return to his Country, Capital and Palace and
2, they managed in friendly but firm manner the huge rally of about 15,000 angry, frustrated communists at the same physical area!
No one was hurt and, except for some scuffles between the royalists and the commies, there was peace and quiet. There came reports last night though that the Police have to go out to Kalanki to protect the HQ of CPN-UML from angry royalists who accuse them of TREASON. Right, they are at last getting mad and showing it! And the "reactionary puppy of the Palace" was good enough to protect them... Strange things, hey! but this is Kathmandu:
"And the wildest dreams of Kew are the facts of Kathmandu.."
-- Rudyard Kipling

So back to the Black Jaguar: this was the longest jag I've ever seen, with a flag pole on the roof flying King's colors and crests on both rear doors. The King and Queen very touchingly took their grandchildren for the ride to the Palace, a gesture I really appreciate, being a grandfather mysself...

Update: The street fighting/obstruction of the Royal Savari was more dramatic:
Crown Prince seeks explanation from top security officials

Crown Prince Paras on Saturday sought clarification from chief of Nepal Police and other high-ranking security officials on alleged security lapse on Friday when his cavalcade heading towards Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) to receive Their Majesties King Gyanendra and Queen Komal reportedly came under attack.

According to reports, the Crown Prince arrived at the Police headquarters at around 10 a. m. on Saturday?a public holiday. Inspector General of Police Shyam Bhakta Thapa, chief of the Army Staff of the Royal Nepalese Army General Pyar Jung Thapa, chief of the Armed Police Force Sahabir Thapa and chief of the National Intelligence Department Devi Ram Sharma were present on the occasion.

Crown Prince left police headquarters within ten minutes.

Meanwhile, Kantipur daily reports that IGP Thapa has constituted a five-member committee to probe into Friday?s incident. The committee comprises deputy inspector generals of Nepal Police Him Gurung and Keshav Baral, senior superintendent of police Krishna Bahadur Thapa and superintendents of police Upendra Kanta Aryal and Rana Bahadur Chand. The committee has already started probe into the incident.

Earlier, reports said pro-UML supporters and a group of royalists clashed at Min Bhavan area immediately after the conclusion of a huge mass rally of the UML at New Baneswore on Friday. The cavalcade of Crown Prince Paras and other security chiefs passed through the area at the same time when the angry demonstrators were pelting stones at each other.

At least half a dozen security personnel including SP of traffic police were injured in the stone pelting, according to reports. nepalnews.com by Dec 04 05

Of course, MKN and his Merry Communists (as opposed to the Murdering ones) knew the King was coming back, this was known on the day HM left for Dhaka. So if you aspire to be state-building politician and interested in peace, would you plan a rally on the same spot and same time? Now would you? He did!

The Other Koirala.

They are hard to find, but there ARE dissenting voices in the MSM amidst the chorus of bleating 'journos' repeating the PC-mantra du jour 'Republic-Republic'...

One of the refreshing voices is none other than son of the 'Father of Nepali Democracy' B.P. Koirala and nephew of O3
In its front-page anchor news report on Thursday, Gorkhapatra daily quoted Minister Koirala as saying that India worked for the pact after Nepal's new position in its foreign policy during the SAARC Summit, said the minister. 'India might have thought that Nepal was trying to wriggle free from its clutch,' junior Koirala said. But he said he was sorry that the Nepali political leaders failed to understand India's game-plan. 'When India's interest is fulfilled it will sideline the parties,' he added.

'The days of playing politics by remaining in India has ended. If those politicians want to do politics according to the changed context, they should dare to do politics in Nepalese soil and not by riding on other's shoulders.'

On the government's response to the alliance of the parties and the Maoists, Minister Koirala said that the government should not remain a mute spectator to what this called a treachery. 'The government must stand up against those who are trying to fuel terrorism.'

Nepalis won't say anything if the US enters into an agreement with al Qaeda, said Koirala. But why did countries like the US, UK and India welcome the agreement between the parties and Maoists at a time when they are fighting against terrorists themselves' he asked.

'There is only one reason, they do not want stability in Nepal so that they can continue playing games here.'

Referring to one of the points of agreement between the parties and the Maoist saying that the Royal Nepalese Army and the Maoists' armed forces be placed under the supervision of the United Nations or any credible international agency when elections to the constituent assembly are taking place, Minister Koirala asked how could it be possible for an independent nation. He further said it was something that has never happened anywhere in the world. 'This only shows their bankruptcy in political acumen.'

Minister Koirala said he was concerned about the increase of foreign interference in Nepal's domestic. 'But it is because of the political leaders here, who rush to Delhi even on every trifle issue and plot against the country's sovereignty and independence,' he added.

When asked about the accusation of the violation of human rights and freedom in Nepal by the state, Koirala shot back, 'In America, if any of its citizens work for terrorists or connive against the country, they are put in jail for up to three years under the 'Patriot Act' but nobody raises the issue of human rights and freedom there.'

In Nepal, everybody is free to do anything. The government has done nothing to those who returned here after rubbing shoulders with the terrorists in India, said Koirala.

Son of late B.P. Koirala - the first popularly elected rime minister and one of the founders of Nepali Congress (NC) - Prakash Koirala was expelled by the NC for supporting the royal takeover early this year.

His Majesty King Gyanendra later offered him a berth in the council of ministers chaired by himself.

Hard to resist to exclaim a small, gloating "I told you so!", but this was PRECISELY THE POINT in my previous posts: India, more precisely the brown sahebs of South Block are pissed at HM ouvertures to China, and China's response!

2005-12-01

Black Friday coming...

Tomorrow, Dec. 2nd, HM King is scheduled to return from the World Internet Summit and inspection of Nepali UN-contingent in Africa.
And the "peceful" commies, the CPN-UML (actually the Shin Fein to the Provos of the Maobadis, the NOT brave enough, NOT ruthless enough to carry guns...) couldn't pick "better" day to re-launch (for x-time) their "andolan", and of course, on the same route HM is ALWAYS taking to his Palace: Tinkuni near the Airport down to Maitighar in the heart of the government district.
In any big city there is enough crazies to fight with the police - have lived in Paris in 1968, seen it all - Kathmandu is no exception. Hey man, it's fun: throw some bricks, run in intimately known local alleys. I've always tipped my hat to the Kathmandu Police - so much provocation, 3 years of nearly daily, escalating, demonstrations - and NO ONE DIED! Show me this in any 3rd world country, yes, Paris/France 2005 comes again to mind - extremely restrained police.
But I have a gut feeling, tomorrow will be different. The King is coming and they want to sour his homecoming and provoke his guard into shooting (well, he might take helicopter, but knowing a thing or two about this man I don't bet on it!).
Another sign of quickening of the plot is the BREAKING NEWS:

Government forces kill two top Maoist commanders in Nepal:

Kathmandu, 01 December, (Asiantribune.com):
Only days before the lapsing of the unilateral ceasefire declared by the Maoists on September 3 this year, the Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) has killed two senior Maoist commanders in aerial raids in Nepal?s Maoist stronghold of Rapti zone.

In a statement posted on Maoist website KrishnaSen Online Wednesday, Maoist chairman Prachanda has claimed that division commander of the People?s Liberation Army Khim Bahadur Thapa alias Sunil and a battalion vice-commander Nirmam were killed in the aerial raid took place Tuesday evening in Jinawang village in Rolpa district.

Right On! Sorry the Butcher of Teachers and his Head-Hacking friends were not there...
We certainly live here in Nepal in INTERESTING TIMES!

Treason and Madness

The treasonous party-politicians are talking, shouting, as to convince each other the 'Republic' is a done thing! Can't help it, going back to my elephantine memory, but there was time in Nepal when such expressions (bah - foaming at the mouth sounds better!) were qualified as TREASON and Lese Majesty (from the Latin Laesa maiestatis, injury to the Majesty).

But since that Ratna Park Intifada, (the one-two thousand of old-faithful, obstructing traffic and burning effigies of what the press "tactfuly" called "regression"), both MK Nepal and his buddy the O3 talked each other into courage to see who can say more stupid, injurious thing about Monarchy! And I say Monarchy, not King, for that is the target, that is the one thing they in their stewardship of the country past 16 years (OK OK, they've been out of power for like 3 years, but they still bear respopnsibility for the stalemate!) didn't taint or destroy...

Now that the RNA has quadrupled it's strength, and the Maobadi are loath of another 10 years in the Siliguri's fine Guest Houses (oops! I mean jungle...) and getting their butts kicked by the villagers and their "fine" command structure disintegrates into dacoits bands:
So the 7 dwarfs in their last desperate, DISHONEST lounge for power ... they allied themselves with the DEVIL.
It seems they (MKN & O3) didn't study the history of United Fronts in Eastern Europe after the WWII ! In every case, from Czechoslovakia down to Bulgaria, the "real" communists went for the power and won in few months TOTAL POWER. For four decades!
And if the Maobadis, Shiva forbid!, succeed here, they will be among the first on scaffolds and in reeducation camps: No one was more persecuted by Lenin then the poor, misguided "ESSER's" [Social Revolutionaries] - a decade after the 1917 revolution hardly one of them was still alive! - that was Lenin/Stalin's gratitude towards the party who helped them to TOTAL POWER!
Yes, study history, comrades!
So back to my main question - why are these guys and the assorted "Human Rights activists" not charged wtih Lese Majesty.?
After the student uprising in Bangkok in 1991 I personally witnessed different respect for the Monarchy... and it cost around 400 dead and there was no foreign crying about Human Rights: No, you injure the King, you die!

Genocide? What genocide?

J.V.Stalin

In eternal infamy, Walter Duranty, wites UKRAYINSKA PRAVDA:

"the veteran Moscow correspondent of The New York Times, whose admirers ranged from H.L. Mencken and Walter Lippmann to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, responded only two days later in the pages of his august publication. Far more than anything disgraced former Times reporter Jayson Blair wrote, it was arguably the most infamous piece of reporting or analysis ever to appear in that great paper.

Duranty, an 11-year veteran of Moscow who had won the Pulitzer Prize the previous year, disparaged Jones as having made a "somewhat hasty" judgment on the basis of "a 40-mile walk through villages near Kharkov" where he "had found conditions sad."

Having dismissed the conditions that in fact led to the deaths of 10 million men, women and children as merely "sad," Duranty went on to explained that "you can't make an omelet without breaking eggs." He explicitly stated "there is no famine."

Who is this Jones, the good guy in this story? He is now being accorded title: "Gareth Jones, hero of Ukraine".
Just like the local "hyenas" (a name aptly given to journalists by Czech President, Václav Klaus), the beating of some journalist by the RNA or some other "crime" is being equaled with REAL HORRORS, like some guys come to your house and behead your husband or rob your entire harvest or take your child to the mountains! Cultural Relativity my ass!

Now Yushchenko is coming with more:
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko calls on the world to recognise the 1930s Great Famine as Soviet genocide. Let's see what the Gray Lady has to say about this, if they find a place on page 17 - there is so many amerikkkan atrocities to report... like the underwear-party at Abu Ghraib, right?

The Kathmandu Syndrome

FP: Tell us how and why people under siege often end up internalizing the hatred against themselves and delude themselves about the malicious intentions of their enemies?

Levin: They do so because they are eager to feel some control over a painful situation which is, in reality, out of their control. Chronically abused children - more specifically those subjected to parental abuse - typically blame themselves for their victimization because to do so supports a fantasy that if they reform, if they become "good," their parents will treat them differently. To look at their predicament more realistically would force them to accept their helplessness to change their terrible circumstances, and children, and adults as well, prefer to fend off acknowledging such bitter realities.
Similarly, within populations under chronic siege - whether minorities marginalized, demeaned and attacked by surrounding societies or small nations besieged by their neighbors - some will invariably seek either to avert their gaze from the severity of the threat or rationalize the threat and blame themselves or others within their community for the danger. Their doing so reflects wishful thinking that if only they would reform sufficiently the danger would be alleviated.

Sorry to drag you into this, kind-if highbrow stuff, but when I read it last night on FrontPage a kind of light popped-up: Eureka!
This is what I been thinking all these months, trying to find explenation to obviously suicidal behavior of the 7 dwarfs, sorry I mean the 7 parties, calling themselves "democratic"!
How on earth could you explain the meme going rounds in their brains that:
King is the enemy
Maobadi are to be prefered to King
Republic is better than Monarchy

... to be continued ... must go and wash and groom for Pam & Charles Turkey Eating Contest a.k.a. Thanksgiving 2005...

2005-11-25

Fissures appearing...

The seven dwarfs are splitting-up. Some of the smaller parties are in true nepali-style politics, having second thoughts.
Teay balk not so much at the enormity of their treasonous behavior - rather they are afraid they will be swallowed by the NC/CPN-UML combine. Especially the CPN-M (M for Masal, another obscure faction of the doomed ideology...) is pulling its' chain!
As if it mattered! The pressure on the Palace is raising by the minute, and everybody waits for HM's return from the African safari.
Last with a commentary, though nobody asked him, came the father of corrupt Kujo, Daddy Kofi. Of course he greeted the München/Delhi Abkommen . Somehow nobody asked him whether he will TRY to help the poor bhutanese refugees... and if yew, then when, or wether he has any moral right to lecture a King of a country where armed insurgency against democratically elected governement 1996 killed 10.000+ innocent, sweet, poor nepalis!

The Black Book of Communism

Been thinkin' a long time about the need to translate and publish this monumental opus in Nepal, in Nepali.
Even during the Panchayat era in certain, slightly off-the-beat, bookstores and newsstands you could find China Reconstructs and (North) Korean propaganda mags, in English, with smiling peasants driving shiny tracotrs and burly truck-drivers on top of dams. I think these mags were one of the roots of the "rosy" perception of communism as a wave of the future.
For all the billions of $$ in the CIA budget, the US never gave these totalitarians any serious competion!
So if someone who has some "loose" funds thinks it's a worthy cause, or if someone has time to translate this book, contact me...
Also the NTV should contact the Czech TV, they made fantastic documentaries from Magadan about Gulag. And the Polish TV, and the Latvian TV, the list goes on...
A lot of, most of, Nepalese knew zilch, zero, nada about the horrors of communism: and sadly had to experience the commissars' "gentle" touch on their own back... and experience the ultimate horror of their children, by the thousands, being taken to "reeducation" camps...
Compare this suffering to the effete journos whining about some Indian-owned FM-station loosing illegal up-link equipement! Where is the sense of proportion?

Laloo Prasad Yadav Raj over!

Good news from south of the border, the dusty state of Bihar! The leading "povertarian"of India and his illiterate wife, Rabri Devi, are out of power. For 15 year this despicable, but clever politician held the poorest-of-the-poor state of India, the proverbial "anus mundi" in thrall...
Now it's over, and I hope the new governement will find enough papers to jail both of them for life. It's a good possibility because this buffoon of a man was clever only in dealing with other (corrupt) politicians, and thought himself "untouchable"...
As in "untouchable as Al Capone". not untouchable as low caste - actually the Yadavs are "high caste" and their arrogance and mistreatment of the lower castes and the wretched Muslims ironically brought this man to power. He painted himself as a "protector" of the Muslims and till now could count on their unwavering support. In no other state in the rather chaotic politics of India have some many murderers, convicted or just on years' long "bail" participated and regularly "won" elections!
It's another great testament to the power of Democracy that even these wretched, ignorant souls cast off the demagogy and saw through, at last...
For us, here uphill from the dusty plains, this could be a spell of hope. Once the lawless, goonda-conditions in Bihar are improoved, the plight of hapless Nepalis along the border, plagued by dacoit raids wil lighten too. The RNA unfortunately has other "fish to fry" and cannot patrol the border as much as it should.

UPDATE 2005-11-23 17:07:
Indian Express brings some numbers to illustrate the ENORMITY of Laloo's legacy:

? A seventh of India?s population below the poverty line. Rural poverty is as high as 41%.

? 89% of BPL (below poverty line) families do not receive ration benefits

? 3.50% of households without food sufficiency (national figure: 2.3%)

? Lowest literacy level 48%?compared to national average of 65%.

? Primary enrollment rate for 2000: 52% compared to 77% nationally. Only state where primary enrollment fell in the 90s.

? Number of schools per million: 629 (national: 1,036).

? Indicators for women worse than men? 14% fewer enrollments for women and a literacy gap of 26%

? Only 10% children fully immunised.

? Maternal mortality rate: 707 per 100,000 women die within 6 months of giving birth. National average of 404.

? Only 7.9% of homes have latrines (national: 18%)

? Lowest utilization rate for Centrally funded programmes? it forfeited one-fifth of central plan assistance between1997 and 2000.

? Its spending on health, water and sanitation has actually come down in the last 3 yrs: from 6.5% to 5.49% of the total public expenditure.

? There is a link with poverty and slow economic growth? It has averaged to less than 4% by 2002. The first casualty is critical public services.

That this swindler and criminal could become Union Minister for Railways in Sonia Gandhi's/Man Mohan Singh's gvt. is absurd! Only in India... not even in Nepal!

The 12 "New Delhi/München" steps to hell

The 12-point understanding between the 7 dwarfs and jungle commissars:

1. Despotic monarchy is chief enemy of democracy as well as peace. So all sides will work to fight despotic monarchy and establish full-fledged democracy.
2. Continuing dialogue and consolidating movement for democracy.
3. For the lasting peace, ending autocratic monarchy, holding elections for Constituent Assembly, consigning arms to the UN or other reliable international supervision prior to the election to Constituent Assembly, holding the election in a free and fair manner and accepting the outcome of the election;
4. Maoists have expressed their commitment to competitive pluralistic governance, including human rights, rule of law and fundamental rights of people and have vowed to conduct their activities accordingly.
5. Maoists have expressed commitments to allow other political parties activities freely and to make arrangement so that displaced political leaders and party-workers could return to their places with dignity and their unduly confiscated properties handed back to them.
6. Maoists have made self evaluation and regretted for the mistakes committed in the past , and also vowed not to repeat similar mistakes in the future.
7. Seven-party alliance has also made similar self evaluation and regretted for the lapses and shortcomings that prevailed when they were in power or in parliament.
8. Respecting the norm and values of human rights and press freedom, and moving accordingly;
9. Opposing and boycotting the municipal as well as parliamentary polls offered [by the King?s government] to legitimize the unconstitutional government;
10. Commitment to nation, national integrity and democracy;
11. Appeal to general people for support;
12. In cases where parties have demanded probe and action in matters relating to their own wrong activities in the past, conducting probes, punishing the guilty and making such actions publicly noticeable.
The signatories include Girija Prasad Koirala, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Gopalman Shrestha, Amik Sherchan, Bharat Bimal Yadav, Krishnadas Shrestha and Prem Suwal.

Not that I believe one second any of this will become reality. No, I post it here as a matter of record, so in a year's time, when they will be hanging Prachanda on Tundikhel with the Royal Nepal Army Band playing Last Waltz and those named above will be watching it live either from jail or from exile in Benares... then we all have a good laugh and sigh with relief that the nightmare is over!
This is a classic case of what marxist like to call "false consciousness" and these spent, corrupt, 'passé' politicians only delude themselves. Since they launched and "relaunched" their silly "andolan" (movement), confined to an are between New Road and Putali Sadak and few thousand hangers-on, Nepal and nepalese, millions of them, have moved on.
That they refuse participate in the upcoming municipal elections and will actively obstruct them show their contempt for Democrazy. The King is more attuned to the 'Zeitgest', having taken stock of the sucesfull excercises of electoral appeal in Afghanistan and Iraq, where the security sitation is much, order of magnitude, worse!

New München in New Delhi

HM Gyanendra & PM Manmohan Singh
The fools! I mean the 7 dwarfs and their foreign enablers, the aptly named US Ambassador Moriarty and soon-to-be-deported-recalled UK Mantriji Bloomfield!
A foul deed is being cooked-up in "an Indian government guest house"...
I can't help it, I'm like an elephant, a true child of the 20th, the bloodiest, century EVER: I think I've seen this photo before (I know I know, the pic is from the last week's SAARC meeiting in Dhaka) oh yes - President Beneš and Hitler in Berlin, or was it, again President/General Secretary Husák & General Secretary Brezhnev in Moscow..
The point I'm trying to make is: I have an instinct, by that I mean something I have no control over, some things just raise my hackles. Like this meetings taking place in New Delhi. Like that looser Dutch Colonel drinking slivovitz with Radko Mladiç in Srebrenica 10 years ago...
Let's see, a "friendly" neighbor harboring ruthless murderers, maybe even more, turning them ON and OFF as they please, in fact controlling them. When it seems the situation could calm down because the Monarchy didn't fold, the RNA continues to grow and expand control and kill the terrorists, and the people are fed-up with the Maoists' atrocities and intransigence and lies - and even take arms against them (Dailekh) -, and what is worst : HM is signaling he might turn North (oh Gods!) to China and change the whole board in this sorry game: then India in collusion with US (where is Michael Ledeen when we need him to rein in the State Dept.?), the South Block appeasers, the people who gave us 100.000 poor Bhutanese refugees (rotting in camps for 10 years!)swing into action.
They drag Prachanda and his band of Sorry Loosers from the jungles where they kept them on tap, get the O3 (Obstinate Octogenarian Ogre) GP Koirala out of respirator, get couple of airtickets to Madhab K. Nepal and his (mis-?)named Communists-UML and cook this deed.
They make a serious mistake, and by that I don't only mean that any deal with the Maobadis is not worth the paper they put their bload-soaked thumbs on, as history teaches us and the mountains of skulls from Magadan to Phnom Penh remind us of.
No - the biggest mistake is that they cook this outside of Nepal. The Nepalis are no fools and are as nationalist and proud as anybody, if not a notch more. They will not stand for this. The fate of Nepal will be decided in Nepal, you can bet on it.
Now I'm only waiting for the triumphant picture of that fox MK. Nepal on the steps of an Indian Airlines 737 in Kathmandu, holding a shabby jhola and beaming:
General Secretary of the CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal
"Peace in our Time!"

Oldo breaks leg!

Sorry to inform you, my family & friends, that shortly after posting the 'Rice Harvest' story, on Tuesday evening, Nov. 1st, I misstep in my own house and broke both bones (tibia & fibula) above my left ankle! It happened quite simply as I walked down the four stone steps into living area, electtricity gone some minutes ago, but enough light from the myriad of Luxmi-puja lamps & candles my Indu lighted up, and in thought I forgot how many steps there were and planted my solid 105kg on the poor stretched left leg! It felt like a bolt of lightning, sound like when a 'khukri' shatters water-buffalo leg, first time I ever heard this horrible sound, and knew immediately I'm in deep dodo. Indu laughed as I writhed in pain on the carpet - she had 3 times missteped last year and stretched tendon and sore ankle... But I KNEW!
I just came from B&B Hospital in Patan, after 8 days and 2 operations, still in pain, will write more later...

Update: My nice guest, Steen from Silkeborg, the Lake City of Denmark, sent me my last photo as a walking man:

The last photo with whole leg.

Note the drying rice... Nice harvest, ain't it?
The taxi's waiting, his holiday is over, my nightmare just 5 hours away...

Rice Harvest 2062 B.S. (CE2005)

Rice Harvest 2062BS

The fields here in the east of the Kathmandu Valley are teeming with people. Rice harvest, late this year, is in full swing. Literally, for the most important 'machine' is a foot-driven thresher. And from rice comes 'jar', beer-like potion, even children imbibe. Though I don't think this one gets more then mother's milk:

Newari Ama

Laxman proudly poses with the famous thresher - his is a slightly modern model - it runs on household current, and thus could be used on our field:
Laxman's Machine

Happy Harvest!

Outrage in Christiania

The followers of RoP reached a new milestone last week in the peaceful dope-smokers' oasis Christiania (former Royal Danish Navy yard, occupied by hippies in 1971 - if you didn't knew - ): a murder commando of these sons-of bitches entered Christiania with a single purpose - to kill their ( perceived ) business rivals (business beeing sale of hash, a lucrative business!). They didn't care whom they hit - just as they intimidated the danish. These bastards look at us Europeans as wolves look at sheep, with less compassion and empathy than these predators. Every sign of kindness on our part is seen by them as sign of our terminal weekness...
When the shooting was over the Police found 35 bullets, 6 bodies on the ground, one of which, an easy going fella named Morten, died on spot... The arab bastards car-jacked a car and in their Audi 6 (Slovak gangsters too are fond of!) with swedish license took off.
And how our Police tackled this worst ethnic attack in newer danish history? Well, they used the fact that Christiania was in shock and started a great 'clean-up' operation! First time ever a mean looking foot-patrols walked criss-cross around the 7 ha. big area, and whoever was caught with a smelly joint in his hand was arrested: they had unlimmited supply of plastic handcuffs and the poor sod could look to 3-4 hours at a police station and abt.$200 fine. Full court press!

Nepali buddhist monks in pro-king march

EnglishAnd I thought these guys were only interested in travel to the US, ROLEXes and PAJEROs with darkened windows! And golden batroom-fittings in their "ascetic" gompas (monasteries).
Buddhists for HMKing

Well, some of them have the heart on the right side and show more sense then "professional" politicians and the "Toyota Talibans"!

Univerzita Karlova - Zakládací listina
Just foolin' around with friend's computer: installed GoggleToolbar on his IE6.x.
It has a nice feature - Browse by Name - it even has 'Blogger'-button, so you can comfortably append a site to a blog!
Maybe I should start the dusty XP-again? Just for this Google-toy? I hope they port the 'toy' to other OS' - they used to brag about their server-farm running LINUX. Mayb they could repay some brownies to the Open-OS community for free LINUX.

Cautious optimism in the Kingdom

First reports from the Kingdom suggest the people of Nepal shown more political savvy and intuition than their (justly) infamous politicians! There is a feeling of relief, and questions why this Emergency was not declared earlier.
On Tuesday evening, one week after HM King Gyanendra's speech, the land-line phones and internet were back on-line. The mobile net is still switched-off, and according to RNA, this gave the Army a "leg-up" on the maobadis. They relied on the GSM-net for a lot of tactical C3 (Comms-Command-Control), and now they are being deprived of it & rolled-up.
The CPN-M (maoists) called a general strike for 3 days last week... and everybody ignored it!!!
Our intrepid Mjr. Andrew filed a brave Losar-report from Pokhara, and basically confirms the base-line: Relief, Expectations, faith in Monarchy as the Last Standing Structure in the F-state of Nepal. (F not as 'Failed', but as 'Fucked-Up')!

Valg i Danmark - Betragtninger II.

Dansk

Nepal still cut-off!

As of today, a week after leaving Nepal, I have not been able to call anybody in Nepal. Neither could I check my e-mail with World Link, their servers are still DOWN!
There is surprisingly little on the net about Nepal: one source is a Nepal BBS with some links, the other is soc.culture.nepal
King GyanendraHM King Gyanendra's action is according to sketchy eye-witness reports widely applauded by the people on the street, termed as "unevitable"! O3 made use of his legendary "nose" and managed to flee to his Indian paymasters' Embassy

King has had enough...

Copenhagen Airport, morning 1st.Feb. 2005.
HM King Gyanendra probably even surprised himself with the cup d'etat this morning: suspended what little of the Constitution there was, placed my favorite enemies (O3, MK Nepal ++) under house arrest, declared state-of emergency.
I aplaud it, and expected the shit to hit the fan earlier - just to get away from the absurd situation where the Maobadi are gayly killing teachers and social workers and blowing up life-line hanging bridges, while the politicos from O3 down are blaming HM for everything, even the Original Sin! The RNA is fighting with one hand tied behind its back. So, as they say in Ireland - "They hang you for stealing a lamb, so you can just as well take a sheep!" - if they blamed him for "Regression", and there was NON, then we will give you REAL REGRESSION, with house arrests, suspension of civil liberties and cutting communications with outside world!
I can't at this time get direct contact with my loved ones: I flew out of Kathmandu Airport last night at 8, and just landed. None server in Nepal replies (Mercantile, WorldLink), and the phones are "dead".
Will post later, when I get to Århus.

Good News Nepal '05 Part 1: Average income in Nepal up by 80 percent:

English Flag
Under this OPTIMISTIC headline I'll post MANY good news from this part of 'turd world'.
Part 1:
The average household income in the country has grown by a whopping 80 percent in the last eight years.

A survey conducted by the state-owned Central Bureau of Statistics has found that from 1995-96 the average household income in the country has increased to Nepalese rupees 15,162 from Rs. 7,690.

NB: Nepali Ruppe is abt. 70 for a USD, about 90 for an Euro.

This and other data from this Agency report (Indo-Asian News Service) underpin my conservative view - the governements of most countries do more bad than good! They should ONLY worry about borders, currency and taxes (preferably VAT !) and let the rest for polity to build, and pay for. Do you want a hospital? Build it! Road? Build it! Just like people build and maintain temples, no state intervention necessary. Here, an economic basket-case, Nepal, is rising from poverty like Phoenix, no matter the hyenas in offices and the murderous maobadis in the hills and the Toyota Taliban from UN-hell!

A survey conducted by the state-owned Central Bureau of Statistics has found that from 1995-96 the average household income in the country has increased to Nepalese rupees 15,162 from Rs. 7,690.

The Nepal Living Standard Survey also said that along with a rise in income, the average consumption level also increased substantially. Eight years ago it was Rs. 6,802 and currently it stands at Rs.15,848.

Presently, 92 percent householders have their own houses, while access to electricity and water supply has increased by over 10 percent. Access to banks, markets and roads too has increased by over seven percent.

The number of employed people rose from 67 percent to 74 percent while average least daily wages increased by 88 percent in the agricultural sector and by 80 percent in the non-agriculture sector.

The quantum leap is attributed to a rise in remittance sent home by Nepalese working abroad.

Earlier, the mainstay of incomes was farming. But that declined from 61 percent to 48 percent while non-farm sources, including remittance, shot up to 25 percent from 16 percent.

The percentage of households receiving remittances increased from 23 percent to 32 percent with the minimum remittance jumping to Rs. 34,698 from Rs. 15,160. The total remittance also soared to over Rs.46 billion from about Rs. 13 billion.

Regression? Where, in which dimension, which alternate reality live Nepali politcians? Didn't the maobadi hear Deng T'sio Ping "Let's get rich!" ?

Arbeit macht frei 1945-01-27.

Isreal Flag

My mother had nightmares all her life: In summer 1944, she was 17 then, she witnessed several transports on railway stations near her home-town Vrútky (even toady one of the most important railw.junctions in that mountainous country, 40 km S ouf Polish border). She handed over her lunch, brought some water to the skinny arms stretched out from small barbed-wire-barred windows on the the cattle cars, while the SS looked the other way, all the time scared for her own life...
These people were on their (one-)way north - to then unknown town of Oswiecim [german: Auschwitz]
Auschwitz
I went to Auschwitz with my father in 1960, barely 12 years old. He was put in charge by the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia of boxing club Spartak Dubnica for a friendly bout with Krakow B.C. The hosts gave a tour of Oswiecim and "sister" camp Brzezinki [german: Birkenau]
Now I had nightmares: even 15 years after the war the place stank of DEATH and unspeakable HORROR: the suitcase of glasses no one wear anymore, the wooden-barrack full of artificial limbs, another two full of human hair (the efficient nazis used them for matrasses!), I couldn't sleep without fear for months afterward...
Memento Mori!

Valg i Danmark - Betragtninger I.

Dansk
