The Butcher from Rukum, Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), has finally realised nobody gives a rat shit as long as he and his band of murdering commies do the foul deeds in remote jungles in Rukum.
So now comes a change in strategy - Kathmandu! The valley should become the battleground for his Utopia:
"Feudalism can't be abolished by attacking small security posts in the villages, we will now aim at Kathmandu," said Netra Bikram Chand (Comrade Biplab) who is in charge of the "Central Base Area" that includes Rukum, Rolpa, Salyan and Pyuthan.
I thought for a long time how lucky we were in the Valley that the Maobadboyz only choose the West-, and later, after the disastrous Second Ceasefire, East-jungles for the murder and mayhem!
Now it dawned on the clueless "comrades" that as long as they only kill and abduct and extort outside the Valley, NOBODY gives a damn! This is how Nepal works: if it doesn't exists in Kathmandu/the Valey, it DOESN'T EXIST!
So we must prepare for terrorist attacks in town - new way of travelling, shopping. On the other hand - the RNA and the Police have a good overview over the city, and if new people show up in the neighborhood, the cops are first to know. Anyway it's a depressive development and the poor nepalis are far from peace! OM Shanti!

Ha! Why do you seem to think taking Kathmandu is a new strategy for Prachanda? This has always been part of the 'Prachanda Path'. Even the US ambassador believes that within a year or so Maoists will be attacking Kathmandu.
Still: I think it's more a sign of desperation, and of recognition on the side of the Politbyro that no matter how big swaths of country are under "their" control, they hold more and more useless, depopulated, famished hills - nearly all these 12 lakhs Nepalis in Gulf and Korea came from Maobadi controlled areas. As in any Communist controlled areas in the past 80 years - from Stalin's Ukraine, East Germany, Cuba to North Korea today, the BIGGEST problem for the "engineers of human souls" is to have enough souls to do their experimenting on!
